Be Healthy! Evidence-Based Healthy Aging Workshops put YOU in control of your own health
Regular physical activity, healthy eating, staying smoke-free, and staying socially connected are essential for living healthier lives. Ethos AgeWell classes and workshops are offered to seniors free of charge to give participants the skills and confidence to manage their health and either prevent or delay chronic conditions and live healthier, more active lives.
My Life, My Health, Chronic Disease Self Management (CDSM)
Ethos’ My Life, My Health healthy aging workshop will help you get the support you need, find practical ways to deal with pain and fatigue, discover better nutrition and exercise choices, understand new treatment choices, and learn better ways to talk with your doctor and family about your health. If you have conditions such as diabetes, arthritis, high blood pressure, heart disease, chronic pain, anxiety, this workshop can help you take charge of your life.
This free workshop is conducted in two and a half-hour sessions, once-a-week, for six consecutive weeks.
Diabetes Self Management
This program is similar to My Life, My Health with a focus on diabetes. It incorporates diet, exercise, lifestyle changes, and overall management of diabetes. This workshop is also 6 sessions (2.5 hours each week).
This free workshop is conducted in two and a half-hour sessions, once-a-week, for six consecutive weeks.
Tai Chi: Moving for Better Balance
This evidence-based workshop focuses on preventing falls and improving balance through regular practice of Tai Chi. Participants will learn eight single forms in the program, all of which are derived from the traditional, well known, 24-form Yang Style Tai Chi but tailored to older adults who wish to improve balance and mobility and consequently, reduce the risk of falling. Performance of Tai Chi movements is closely coordinated with natural breathing.
This workshop is conducted in one-hour sessions, twice weekly, for 12 consecutive weeks.
A Matter of Balance
Many older adults experience concerns about falling and restrict their activities. A Matter of Balance is designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels among older adults.
The program is 8 sessions (2.5 hours each week).
Stay Sharp: Memory Training
The Memory Training course provides an innovative educational program for people with mild memory concerns. Developed by healthy aging experts at the UCLA Longevity Center, M.D., the course is taught by certified volunteer trainers in a fun, interactive classroom environment.Stay Sharp presents effective memory-enhancing techniques and combines trainer presentations with group discussions, memory checks, and skill-building exercises.
This workshop is conducted in two-hour sessions, once-aweek, for four consecutive weeks.
Powerful Tools for Caregivers
Caring for elderly relative, a friend or someone with a chronic illness can be stressful physically, emotionally and financially. We can help! Join our Powerful Tools for Caregivers six week class that is designed to provide you—the family caregiver—with the skills you need to take care of yourself.
This workshop is conducted in 1 1/2 hour sessions, once-a-week, for six consecutive weeks. Refreshments will be provided. There is no cost but space is limited! Registration required. Healthy Minds
The Program to Encourage Active, Rewarding Lives for Seniors (PEARLS) is a community-based program that teaches individuals who are experiencing minor depression methods to manage depression through problem-solving and goal-oriented approaches to overcoming problems that may be related to depression. Program counselors will conduct the counseling sessions by meeting individually with the client in his/her home.
The program consists of 6-8 sessions over the course of 5-6 months.
AgeWell Café
