I used to be a senior companion myself, you know. I visited people who couldn't get
out to do things, like getting groceries or going to doctors' appointments by
themselves, and such. I even got this award for serving 10 years as a volunteer.

Now I'm on the receiving end and I understand why people used to be so grateful for
my visits all those years. I'm 93 and pretty much a stay-at-home, what with my arthritis
and poor eyesight. I can get around my apartment, but I need help with even the
simplest chores-in fact, all those things I used to do for other people.

I couldn't manage without Helen from the Ethos Home Care Program. She looks out
for me, and makes sure that I'm getting the help I need. She comes every Thursday,
without fail, to check on me and make sure I'm safe and sound. We always have tea
together, and I make sure I have that herbal kind she likes. I know she's really busy,
so I try to make her day a little nicer-just like she does for me.
