Ethos volunteers provide
elders the opportunity to:
maintain their independence,
remain connected to their community,
and improve their physical and
emotional well-being.
Ethos provides volunteers with:
training,
supervision,
travel reimbursement,
opportunities for creativity,
flexible hours to fit your schedule,
community service projects,
internships for college and high school students,
application to programs offering stipends to senior volunteers.
Companion
Visit an elder in his or her home on a weekly basis
to relieve loneliness, provide companionship, and share
interests. Accompany them to a local coffee shop
or go see a movie together.
Time: 1-2 hours per week,
with a six to twelve month commitment.
Shopper/Shopping Escort
Shop for a senior, or accompany them to do shopping,
and assist with storing the items at their home.
Time: 1-2 hours, weekly or biweekly.
Telephone Caller
Call list of seniors to relieve loneliness and
check on their well-being.
Time: 1-2 hours, per week.
Medical Escort
Escort an elder to a medical appointment and
accompany them home. Even one day per month
would be helpful!
Time: varies (2 - 4 hours per escort).
Mon- Fri, 8 am - 4 pm, as needed.
These two volunteer opportunities are available in
the Ethos area and in other areas of Boston.
Boston Long-Term Care Ombudsman
Advocate for the rights of residents in long-term care facilities
by mediating issues and resolving their concerns.
A state-mandated training is provided, as well as ongoing
supervision via bi-monthly meetings. Volunteer must have
their own transportation to reach the facilities.
Time: 5 hours per week after training.
Mon-Fri 10 am - 6 pm.
Boston Money Management Program
Assists elderly and disabled people with the management
of their finances by developing budgets,
reconciling accounts, writing checks,
and interacting with creditors.
Time: 2 hours per month, with one year commitment,
weekdays or weekends. Evenings are possible in some cases.
